PARISH REGISTRATION

Our Lady of Lourdes has a wonderful process by which new parishioners and their families are welcomed into the parish. A reception at a Thursday Evening of Welcome, held several times each year, begins the process. New parishioners are then invited to return to a morning Mass the following Sunday to be welcomed by the fuller parish community. New families in the parish should call the parish office to preregister for an Evening of Welcome.

Evenings of Welcome

Quotes from New Parishioners

Our Welcome Evening was really well done. We thought that the Welcomers were very open and down to earth. After our welcoming, baby Sydney was baptized. We enjoyed meeting other new parishioners in our age group, and appreciate that Father Len recognizes us after mass and always asks after the baby. It’s nice to not feel like a number!
--Megan & Kevin Gunn

We really enjoyed our Welcome Evening. We liked meeting the other young couples and especially enjoyed seeing all of the expectant families. We like the large group setting where we heard a little something about everyone. At first we were intimidated by the size of the parish, but have found it to be a really nice family community. We’re hoping to become involved with the Pre-Cana group.

(Welcomed – Nov 2006)

It is a growing parish and one that is getting reinvigorated. Having met new people and new parishioners, the welcoming was very useful as we were able to get a feel for the culture. The sharing background was useful. We have two kids and are trying to get involved in the community as we settle in.
--Bob Clark

We thought the Welcome Evening was welcoming, warm and pleasant. We thought about RCIA before the Welcoming Meeting. Our Lady of Lourdes was the church we were most comfortable in and decided to pursue it. One of the women at the Welcoming was familiar with RCIA and it made us comfortable.
--Joley & Edward Tetraul

The Welcome Evening was very nice. We were able to explore the spiritual side as well as the personal side, and it was helpful to be able to network with other new parishioners.
--Vicki Sinisi

We thought the Welcome Evening was great. This was the first time we have ever seen this. Very nice – we went on to baptize our baby in July. We met another couple at our Welcoming who had just given birth and had a 3 week old baby. We had a chance to get to know them, and run into each other at mass. It is good to see a familiar face right off the bat.
--Rupert & Betty Bader

Our Welcome evening was great. We had a good time. Everyone was real nice and we enjoyed it. Afterwards, we completed Pre-Cana. We were not able to schedule Pre-Cana at OLL, but Sr. Rosanne was fantastic in connecting us with another parish in the diocese that we subsequently took the Pre-Cana class in. After joining the parish my grandmother passed, and Sister was again very helpful.

BAPTISM

A child being presented to the Church for baptism needs to have at least one parent actively practicing the Catholic faith. The Rite of Baptism is normally celebrated on the first and third Sunday of the month except during Lent. Parents are required to attend the Preparation Session which is possible even before the birth of the child. Arrangements for the baptismal date are made at the time of the session. Preparation Sessions are conducted every other month.

Please call the parish office to pre-register for the session.

MATRIMONY

Specific times are set for the celebration of marriage on Saturday or on Friday evenings. Weddings during Advent and Lent are discouraged. To allow the couple and priest ample time for preparation, one year reservation of a date is necessary. Catholics contemplating marriage should be practicing their faith. Call the parish office to set up an appointment with Fr. Len.

PASTORAL CARE OF THE SICK

The Sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and of the Anointing of the Sick are available to our parish sick and shut-ins upon request. Please do not delay requesting Anointing of the Sick for your terminally ill loved ones. Parish Eucharistic Ministers administer Holy Communion to Catholics at Hunterdon Medical Center each Wednesday. Parishioners in other hospitals need to inform the parish of their admittance to that hospital.

CONFIRMATION, FIRST EUCHARIST, FIRST RECONCILIATION

Though immediate preparation is given to children before receiving these sacraments, children are expected to receive a Christian upbringing in their family life, to regularly worship at Sunday Mass, and to receive on-going religious education.
