FROM THE DESK
OF FR. LEN
My mother was a pack rat. My brother and I used to kid her incessantly that when she died,
we would celebrate her funeral and then come back to the house where a dumpster
would be parked and we could start getting rid of all that she saved. We are good sons – we waited a week before
the dumpster arrived. As we slogged
through all that my mother horded, we came across so many things that made us
thank her for being the type of person she was. One of the things that I found was a clipping about mothers from
an OLL bulletin from May 2005 that obviously touched her. In her memory I repeat the item.
My mother taught me . . .
religion: You
better pray that will come out of the carpet.
logic: Because
I said so, that’s why.
irony: Keep
crying and I will give you something to cry about.
about stamina: You’ll
sit there until that spinach is finished.
about weather: It
looks like a tornado hit your room.
the circle of life: I brought you into this world and I can take you out.
behavior modification: Stop acting like your father.
anticipation:
Just wait until we get home.
about receiving: You
are going to get it when we get home.
about my roots: Do
you think you were born in a barn?
about
justice: One day you’ll have kids … and I
hope they turn out like you.
To all our moms, I wish a Happy Mother’s Day and to
my mom, thanks for everything, especially for being a pack rat.

STARFISH FOOD PANTRY
Our next regular food collection
will take place next weekend, May 19/20.
All kinds of non-perishable items are needed, but we are especially in
need of canned fruit, cereal, spaghetti sauce, peanut butter and jelly. Please do not donate items beyond their
expiration date.
LITURGICAL SYMBOLISM
This week’s liturgical symbol is
the Lily of the Valley. “I am the rose
of Sharon and the lily of the valley,” says one of the lovers in the Song of
Songs (2:1, NRVS). Easter time, the al
fresco season, leads us from the fragrant valley up to the mountain of the
Ascension, from the confines of the upper room out into the streets of the
city.

Deacon Sam will retire this June and we will need a deacon to replace him. Unluckily, the diaconate program is a four-year process. We need a member “or 2” from our parish who will be willing to begin the application process this fall. If you feel that you are being called to the diaconate ministry, feel free to speak to Deacon Sam, Deacon Chuck or Father Len.

the OLL Community for supporting our 18th Annual Pasta Festa. Through the efforts of our membership,
contributions by local businesses and support from the local community, this
project has again raised funds, which will be shared with local charities.
Tante Grazie!!!!
The RCIA process this year provided our parish
community an opportunity to receive ten, now fully initiated persons inclusive
of adults, teenagers and children.
This age span necessitated three “teams” of
catechists who shared their faith and encouraged the candidates and their
Families in their journey to the Easter sacraments.
For your prayerful
consideration ... Is God inviting you at this time in your life to be a part of
the RCIA either as a candidate or a catechist?

Please Pray For Our Service Men and Women Who Are Serving All Over The
World. God Bless Them And Bring Them
Home Safely To Their Loving Families.
