FROM THE DESK OF FR. DAVE

If you could make one promise…

The theme of the parish mission last week was promises.  I thought I’d leave one more thought, one more challenge:

If you could make one promise to God, what would it be?  Before you promise, though, remember: God promises you everything!

If you could make one promise to someone you love, what would it be?  Before you promise, though, remember the proverb: Clouds and wind, but no rain: such is anyone whose promises are princely but never kept (Pr 25:14).

If you could make one promise to yourself, what would it be?  Before you promise, remember what my grandmother used to say when she caught me talking to myself.  She’d say, “David, you’re talking to yourself !”  I’d respond, “Yes, grandma, I am.” Then she’d say, “Well, you couldn’t be talking to a nicer person!”  So make a good and holy promise to yourself.  You couldn’t be promising to a nicer person.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS

Next Sunday at 9:30 am Mass we will celebrate the “Third Scrutiny” with “The Elect”: Olivia Franklin, Tyler Kaziska, Travis Morrell and Victoria Sparrow.  Let us pray and reflect with them for this final Scrutiny:  What keeps me/us, our communities, and our society from life and the true freedom of the children of God?  What persons or groups do we hold bound…how do we hold such persons bound…what ways do we need to untie them?

PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE SERVING ALL OVER THE WORLD.  GOD BLESS THEM AND BRING THEM HOME SAFELY TO THEIR LOVING FAMILIES.
