FROM THE DESK OF FR. LEN

“Power Corrupts!”  We hear this saying all the time yet after some reflection I have come to recognize that power doesn’t always corrupt.  Look at our Lord.  He could have easily abused the power given to Him by the Father.  Instead he accepted the life and mission given to him so that others could be given hope, love, peace and everlasting life.  As we continue our Lenten journey this week I encourage you to reflect on the power given to you by the Father – good health, children, good job, loving spouse, faithful friends, etc. – and remind yourself that as a disciple of Christ you need to use these assets wisely.  How easy it would be to follow the temptations of Satan and horde our many gifts. Sharing them wisely is our call.  Which path will you chose – corruption or salvation?

CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES

Please help by giving to the Collection on the weekend of March 3rd/4th.  The Catholic Relief Services Collection supports Catholic Church organizations that carry out international relief and solidarity efforts.  Programs include relief and resettlement services to the victims of persecution, war, and natural disasters as well as development projects to improve the living conditions of the poor; advocacy on behalf of the powerless; peace and reconciliation work for people suffering from violence; and legal and support services to poor immigrants.  The Church’s National Collection for Black and Indian Missions in the United States will be combined with the Catholic Relief Services Collection.  Last year, the support went to some of the neediest people across the United States.  A total of 135 Dioceses received assistance from the Collection.  A lot of help was given to rebuild the church buildings hit by devasting hurricanes.  The hurricanes caused devastation beyond our comprehension.  Rebuilding will take years.  Much help is still needed in many of the parishes.
