FROM THE DESK OF FR. LEN

Did you have fun trying to answer the questions in last Sunday’s bulletin?  Here are the correct answers.

1) Since only one Catholic sponsor (godparent) is required by canon law, the other sponsor CANNOT be a non-baptized person.  For a person to be a sponsor they MUST be baptized in a Christian faith.

2) A Catholic who is not confirmed MAY have their marriage witnessed by the church.  At least one of the parties must be a fully initiated Catholic for the church to witness a marriage.

 3) A Catholic is permitted to receive Holy Communion at ALL the masses they attend in one day.  However, why would a person attend more than two masses in a day?

4) The most important and preferred sacrament for those in danger of death is EUCHARIST.

5) In the sacrament of penance, reconciliation or confession, penitents DO NOT need to list all their sins by number and kind.  It is not the frequency that is important but rather the nature of the failing.

I included this quiz in the bulletin as a form of adult faith formation.  I hope it will challenge you to take advantage of the many opportunities our parish offers to learn about your faith.

The 5% tithe of next weekend’s collection will be added to the second collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development.

LITURGICAL SYMBOLISM

This week’s liturgical symbol is the deer.  Psalm 42 has been a favorite for members of the Church, especially during the procession toward the baptismal font: “As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God” (Psalm 42:1, NRSV).

TABERNACLE LAMPS

Tabernacle lamps will be lit from February 3rd through February 17th for John & Julia O’Sullivan requested by The O’Sullivan Family; for William E. Kistrup, Jr. requested by The Kistrup Family; and Wedding Blessing for Eileen & Bill requested by Mom & Dad.

THE BLESSED SACRAMENT IS RESERVED AT OUR LADY OF LOURDES AND ALL ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCHES.  WE RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT ALL OBSERVE A REVERENT SILENCE AND APPROPRIATE DRESS.

RITE OF WELCOME

This Sunday, February 4th, at the 9:30 am Mass, we will celebrate the “Rite of Welcome” with Samuel  Haimann, Joshua Haimann, Hannah Haimann and Sarah Haimann, who already share our Christian faith through baptism.  Please give them your prayerful support as they continue their preparation for confirmation and eucharist.

MASS FOR THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK

On February 11th, the patronal feast day of our parish we will celebrate the communal Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at the 11:00 am Mass, for those among us who are in need of healing, both physically and spiritually.

If you, a family member, or someone you know is currently suffering from a chronic or terminal illness, preparing to undergo surgery, or experiencing weakness associated with advance years, you are invited to participate in this communal celebration with fellow parishioners.

As you enter the Church, volunteers will greet you and pin an “Our Lady of Lourdes” medal on you, which will identify you as a recipient of the Sacrament.

Please consider taking this opportunity to be open to and to receiving the healing touch of Christ, who desires your wholeness and peace.

PALMS FOR BURNING

Please remember to bring your palms to church on the weekend of February 11/12 so they can be burned and used for Ash Wednesday.
